Images, relics, and devotional practices in medieval and Renaissance Italy.
American and European art historians examine the relationship between images and relics, focusing principally on the Trecento and Quattrocento in Tuscany and the Veneto. Their topics include Pietro Lorenzetti's Pieve Polyptych and the Shrine of St. Donatus in 14th-century Arezzo, the audience for St. Luke's cult in Padua, and the convent of San Zaccaria in Renaissance Venice. The 11 papers are from a session on using images to advertise and explain relics, held in February 1999 in Arizona. There is no index. (Annotation ©2007 Book News Inc. Portland, OR)
