New directions in aesthetics, creativity, and the arts.
Locher, Colin Martindale, and Leonid Dorfman (psychology professors at Montclair State U., U. of Maine, and Perm State Institute of Art and Culture, Russia) bring together 16 chapters in which scholars present analyses and theories about aesthetics and creativity in the arts and literature. The first section, which focuses on visual aesthetics, considers film, video games, and artwork and how people perceive them. The next sections include discussions of creativity in film and design, music and listening, responses to literature, and the effects of learning art on cognition. The final section addresses art and personality, such as emotion, how personality is expressed in art, and creativity in children. The book is aimed at researchers and scholars in creativity, aesthetics, and psychology of the arts. (Annotation ©2007 Book News Inc. Portland, OR)
