The queer encyclopedia of film and television.
The editor of The Queer Encyclopedia of the Visual Arts and The Queer Encyclopedia of Music, Dance & Musical Theater compiles some 160 entries comprising an illustrated history of film and TV genres, personalities, and related topics viewed through queer lenses. As one contributor notes, while "it is a part of popular cultural mythology that homosexuals are...obsessed with Hollywood ... precisely the reverse..." is true. Summers (emeritus, humanities and English, U. of Michigan-Dearborn) introduces issues relating to how sexual minorities are represented and the efforts of the gay, lesbian, queer studies movement to reclaim its cultural heritage.
