This introductory textbook teaches students how to analyze archaeological materials in the laboratory. All of the most common laboratory approaches and methods are covered, allowing students to analyze and report on a variety of archaeological materials. Although the emphasis is on prehistoric material culture of western North America, the concepts and techniques are applicable to many New World archaeological assemblages. B&w photographs and drawings illustrate the volume. (Annotation ©2007 Book News Inc. Portland, OR)
Kuo (U. of Maryland at College Park) presents a series of 10 interviews with American art historians working in the field of Chinese painting conducted as part of an effort to understand the historical development of the field, the background of scholars, and institutional constraints. Besides being asked about these issues broadly, interviewees were also asked to describe how their contacts with original works of art affected their professional development, what types of analytical approaches they have employed in their work, what philosophies they may or may not subscribe to, and differences between Chinese and Western approaches to Chinese art.
