Homeland; an archaeologist's view of Yellowstone country's past.
Vignettes by an archaeologist who has spent his life and career near Livingston, Montana, bring readers into the archaeology, geology, and history of the Greater Yellowstone ecosystem. His essays integrate rites of passage in his own life with science, conjecture, and data on the various Native American tribes that lived in the area over the course of 11,000 years. He offers an overview of archaeological methods and of the evolution of the field of archaeology itself. The book's 11x8.5 inches format displays b&w contemporary and historical photos and illustrations. Lahren has a doctorate degree in North American archaeology and established Montana's first contract archaeology firm. (Annotation ©2008 Book News Inc. Portland, OR)
