This first of two volumes contains readings and activities that can be tailored to different types of workshops and audiences. An appendix offers seven designs (using the activities in volume two), including a half-day cultural awareness program for individuals or teams working in a business environment, a two day session for individuals and their partners prior to overseas assignments, and a one-day multi-cultural teambuilding session. The ten chapters begin with an overview of cross-cultural training, then cover needs analysis and pre-workshop materials, ice-breaking activities for stimulating interest and curiosity, and reading activities for understanding cultural differences, moving beyond stereotypes, developing cultural self-awareness, and identifying cultural influences on behavior and communication. The final chapters present plans to help participants continue to expand their cultural awareness after the workshop ends, as well as evaluation questionnaires. 3-ring binder. Protestant nonconformist texts; v.2: The eighteenth century.

Ed. by Alan P.F. Sell. (Series: title)
Ashgate Publishing Co., ©2006    459 p.    $144.95    BR1609
0-7546-3853-7

Students of protestant groups and movements that did not conform with the Church of England have generally found the 18th century pretty barren, with only John Wesley and the Evangelical Revival to relieve the tedium. In fact, says Sell, the movement was very busy internally, grappling with issues that transformed them from the pioneering pilgrims of earlier centuries into the strong challenge to the establishment it would become. The documents are arranged in topical sections such as Quaker belief and practice, itinerancy and evangelism, formal education, and worship. Only names are indexed. The series will total four volumes. (Annotation ©2007 Book News Inc. Portland, OR)
