Assisted living for our parents; a son's journey.
Baum's journey moving his mother into an assisted living facility is recounted here, and he describes this decision and process, so that he can guide others to make effective choices and avoid the negative experiences they had. He details her years at the facility, how he helped her live there, her final days, successes and failures at maintaining her quality of life, and assumptions he made along the way concerning money, social isolation, and other issues. Baum is a retired professor of law, York U., Canada. (Annotation ©2007 Book News Inc. Portland, OR)
The iron whim; a fragmented history of typewriting. (reprint, 2005)
Now that the age of the typewriter has come and gone, Wershler-Henry (communications, Wilfrid Laurier U.) argues not only that its ghost still haunts us, but that it has always haunted. Like reporting fleeting sightings of that ghost, he looks at the archaeology of typewriting, first impressions, dictation, typewriting as discipline, speed, and typewriting after the typewriter.
