This biography of Alabama Judge Frank M. Johnson, Jr. (1918-1999) recounts his life and career, which was seminal in many civil rights cases. He made decisions on the Montgomery Bus Boycott, school desegregation, and the Ku Klux Klan conspiracy case in the slaying of Viola Liuzzo. Sikora interviewed Johnson from 1976 to 1989 and throughout the book are extensive quotes from them (printed in boldface). This edition includes a brief chapter on his final years and an expanded index, with slight modification of the format. Photos have been omitted. There is no bibliography. Sikora is a former newspaper reporter for The Birmingham News and has written several books. (Annotation ©2007 Book News Inc. Portland, OR)
