Case incidents in counseling for international transitions.
Sixty-five international academics, counseling professionals, military personnel, and intercultural specialists contribute 19 chapters exploring the experiences of international workers, students, immigrants, refugees, and military and peacekeeping personnel as they transition through the various stages of cultural adjustment from their initial entry into a host culture to reentry into their home culture. Each chapter includes an anecdotal description and analysis of a critical incident — an important, essential, or valuable event taking place within a five- or ten- minute period of time — and discussion of transition outcomes, key issues, plus reader reflection questions and two responses to the sample case. Issues addressed include culture shock, acculturation, dual career transitions, isolation, family expectations, identity confusion, career concerns, immigration obstacles, post traumatic stress syndrome, and reentry culture shock. For counselors and counselor educators serving clients in an international context. No subject index. (Annotation ©2008 Book News Inc. Portland, OR)
