Khmer gold; gifts for the gods.
Bunker (Asian art, Denver Art Museum) and Latchford (a Southeast Asia-based expert on Khmer art), co-authors of Adoration and Glory: The Golden Age of Khmer Art (2004), share a passion for the art created by the Khmer founders of Cambodia. Drawing on new archaeological evidence, they provide commentary on the role of gold in Khmer culture and exquisite examples of sacred temple images and jewelry from the pre- to late-Angkor period. The volume features a foreword by the director of the National Museum of Cambodia, Latchford's personal notes on his long love affair with this art, and appended information on Khmer gold sources and gold-working technology.
