Horkos; the oath in Greek society.
Classicists and other historians consider oaths and their uses in ancient Greece, examples of particular oaths and particular kinds of oaths, and Greek oaths in surrounding times and places. Among their topics are oaths of litigants in Athenian law, Thucydides and Plataian perjury, and the Greek oath in the Roman world. The 17 papers are from a conference held in Nottingham from late June to early July 2004. Distributed in North America by The David Brown Book Company. (Annotation ©2008 Book News Inc. Portland, OR)
