The war schools of Dobrinja; reading, writing, and resistance during the siege of Sarajevo.
Physically separated from the rest of Sarajevo as that city came under siege during the Balkan wars of the 1990s, the area of Dobrinja nevertheless became a symbol of resistance to the besieging forces, where even the educational system was considered a function of defense. Berman (education, U. of Pittsburgh) gives an account of the "war schools of Dobrinja" that combines institutional history and a narrative of personal experiences of the teachers and students as they kept the schools running under the most difficult of circumstances.
