Computational Mechanics
Tradition today; continuity in architecture & society.
This title is the first publication of the International Network for Traditional Building, Architecture & Urbanism, whose patron, HRH The Prince of Wales, provides the foreword. Adam (Royal Institute of British Architects) and Hardy (International Network for Traditional Building, Architecture & Urbanism) edit 12 brief essays, equally divided between the topics of the nature of tradition; law, legibility and language; tradition and diversity; and building and places. Within these topics the essays discuss a diverse range of subjects including architecture, Islamic art, gastronomy, brick-making, religion, letter-cutting, philosophy, law, sculpture, and language, maintaining the continued role of tradition and the dangers inherent in its denial. The book is liberally illustrated in black-and-white but contains no index, and only four contributors provide bibliographic endnotes to their essays. The US office of WIT Press is Computational Mechanics. (Annotation ©2008 Book News Inc. Portland, OR)
