Challenging White privilege; critical discourse for social work education.
Pewewardy (social work education, California State U., Fresno) takes a courageous stand as someone from the inside as she makes her case for changes in social work education. She reveals how white privilege is reinforced in curriculum and classrooms, and how as a result social workers consciously and unconsciously reinforce stereotypes and prejudice in practice. She feels that bringing the issue into sincere debate is one step in transforming consciousness, but she also advocates deep and personal reflection and honesty on the part of every individual involved in social work education and social work itself are necessary to correct injustice.
