Wiregrass to Appomattox; the untold story of the 50th Georgia Infantry Regiment, C.S.A.
Two of Parrish's maternal great-great grandfathers served in the regiment, and his interest spread from them to other members. Finding no comprehensive account of the unit from its initial organization to final surrender, he undertook the task of writing one. The regiment was formed in March 1862 mostly with simple rural farmers between 18 and 29, with few large landowners or slave owners. At any one time, he says, there were about 900 men, though over 1,400 rotated through; over a third died from battle or illness. He admits that some information is missing or lost, so the complete story cannot be told, at least not yet. (Annotation ©2009 Book News Inc. Portland, OR)
