Who's whose?; a no-nonsense guide to easily confused words.
This guide features commonly-confused English words (such as accept and except, discrete or discreet, flaunt or flout) with examples of good and bad usage drawn from UK newspapers (with a few from fiction). It includes explanations for why words are confused, whether due to errors in spelling, application, or use in an expression. In each, terms are defined, how to avoid confusion is described, and an "embarrassment rating" is included. Words are presented alphabetically. Gooden is a former secondary-level teacher and is currently a writer and editor. (Annotation ©2007 Book News Inc. Portland, OR)
