Karl Rahner; a brief introduction.
Rahner (1904-84) was a middle class German Catholic who entered the Society of Jesus at age 18, and led a seemingly uneventful academic life studying, teaching, and writing. But he joined one Catholic Church and left a very different one behind, points out Kilby (theology and religious studies, U. of Nottingham), and in fact had quite a bit to do with that change, for example during the 1950s when his orthodoxy was questioned and his writing censored, and during the 1960s when he was a theological expert at the Second Vatican Council.
