Powder metallurgy stainless steels; processing, microstructures, and properties.
The authors (a retired and a current researcher with the Metals Group of SCM Corporation) describe recent advances in understanding of the factors that affect corrosion resistance in powder metallurgy (PM) or sintered stainless steels. Following a brief historical background, the book more or less follows the sequence of the production process, offering chapters on metallurgy and alloy compositions; manufacture and characteristics of stainless steel powders; compacting and shaping; sintering and corrosion resistance; alloying elements, optimal sintering, and surface modification in PM stainless steels; mechanical properties; magnetic and physical properties; corrosion testing and performance; secondary operations; and automotive and other applications. They also offer a black and white atlas of microstructures in an appendix. (Annotation ©2007 Book News Inc. Portland, OR)
