Neoliberalism, globalization, and inequalities; consequences for health and quality of life.
The 22 papers presented by Navarro (health and public policy, Johns Hopkins U.) provide a sustained critique of the ideology of neoliberalism and its negative impact on health and quality of life around the world. Opening chapters describe the broad contours of neoliberalism and its effect on world inequality. They then examine explore how it has effected world health and offer more specific examinations of the social and health consequences of neoliberalism in Europe, the United States, and Africa, as well as alternatives being pioneered in Latin America. Finally, neoliberal-influenced publications of the World Health Organization are critiqued. (Annotation ©2007 Book News Inc. Portland, OR)
