Anatomy & physiology, 3d ed. (CD-ROM included)
With this text/CD-ROM package, Marieb (Holyoke Community College) and Hoehn (Mount Royal College) offer a shorter, less expensive version of their two-semester text. This shorter version doesn't contain material on pregnancy, development, and heredity from the parent text, and lacks some of the parent text's pedagogical features. Pedagogical features retained for this edition are chapter outlines, objectives, and review questions. The art program features large, color illustrations of muscles, process art breaking down complex processes into steps, cutaway diagrams, and color and b&w photos, medical images, and photomicrographs. The color palette for this edition has been revised, and many illustrations have been enhanced. This third edition is updated to reflect current scientific understanding, especially in the areas of neurotransmitters, nutrition, and metabolism. The companion CD-ROM, compatible with Windows and Macintosh, contains color animations, video clips, quizzes, and games in modules covering various body systems. Material on the digestive system is new to this edition's CD-ROM. (Annotation ©2007 Book News Inc. Portland, OR)
Essential environment; the science behind the stories, 2d ed.
With content distilled from the parent text, Environment: The Science Behind the Stories, this attractive, challenging, high-interest text for an introductory environmental science course integrates fundamentals of the scientific process and critical thinking skills with current research in environmental studies. This edition offers updated content, while retaining features such as chapter-long case studies, boxes on how scientific research was conducted in specific cases, and paired essays on current controversies. The superb art program features color photos, maps, graphs, and detailed illustrations. A companion web site provides quizzes, a database of sources to assist with research projects, tutorials on graph interpretation, and current news articles linking text topics to case studies. Principles of human physiology, 3d ed. (CD-ROM included)
Stanfield (human physiology and neuroscience, U. of South Alabama) and Germann (formerly human physiology and biology, U. of Dallas) provide a textbook on human physiology that concentrates on concepts and physiological processes rather than memorization of facts, with tools for students who have different levels of science experience. In this edition, the flowchart style is new and there are added clinical topics, such as COX-2 inhibitors, sleep disorders, post-traumatic stress disorder, ovarian cysts, and others; new critical thinking questions; revised charts and a revised chapter on muscles; reorganization of the endocrine system coverage; and answers to end-of-chapter questions. The accompanying CD-ROM has a tutorial system with animations, video clips, quizzes and games relating to each body system, with a new tutorial on the digestive system. There is no bibliography.
