Handbook of EEG interpretation.
Tatum (University of South Florida) opens this clinical reference with a review of normal electroencephalogram (EEG) results for measuring the brain's electrical function. The following four chapters interpret example EEG patterns of diffuse slowing, focal abnormalities, epileptiform abnormalities, seizures, periodic epileptiform discharges, and coma. The last two chapters analyze sample polysomnograms recorded during sleep and discuss neurophysiologic intraoperative monitoring. (Annotation ©2007 Book News Inc. Portland, OR)
Neurologic consequences of malnutrition.
Having enough food is not the complete answer to malnutrition; having the right amount of the right kind of food, including micronutrients, along with clean water and proper sanitation makes the difference. These four papers describe one of the most severe consequences of malnutrition, neurological disease, in terms of its significance, the importance of early detection and treatment (especially to avoid developmental abnormalities) and the severe physical disabilities it produces. Topics include a global overview of malnutrition-related neurological disease, including that caused by protein-energy malnutrition and lack of micronutrients, a review of the specific nutrients and their neurophysical effects, an analysis of the relationship of malnutrition and related neurological disease to the abuse of alcohol, and a clinical survey of the most common or severe effects and symptoms.
