Covering fundamentals of metallurgy and the specifics of major engineering alloys, this reference is for anyone who deals with metals, including designers, structural engineers, materials and process engineers, manufacturing engineers, and production personnel. It does not aim to replace handbooks on engineering alloys; rather, it allows readers to compare the metallurgy, properties, and applications of the most important engineering alloy systems. Part I covers fundamentals of physical and mechanical metallurgy. Part II deals with specific ferrous and nonferrous metals and their alloys. The last chapter deals with metal-matrix composites. Appendices list conversions, crystalline system calculations, and crystallographic planes and directions. A first course in materials science is helpful but not necessary to understand the book.
