The professional counselor; portfolio, competencies, performance guidelines and assessment, 4th ed.
For counselors, educators, and graduate students, Engels et al. (counseling, U. of North Texas) offer a handbook to the competencies and learner outcomes related to essential counselor characteristics, knowledge, and skills. Using a spreadsheet format, it lists competencies correlated to performance guidelines and CACREP standards relating to concepts like human development, counseling settings, and specialties like addictions, as well as aspects such as ethics, counselor education and supervision, assessment, research and evaluation, child and adolescent counseling, and multiculturalism. This edition focuses on the 2009 Standards of the Council for Accreditation of Counseling and Related Educational Programs (CACREP) and includes an index to the standards. Standards not related to characteristics, learner outcomes, and work behaviors are excluded. There is no general index. (Annotation ©2009 Book News Inc. Portland, OR)
