An introduction to nervous systems.
Greenspan (experimental neurobiology, The Neurosciences Institute, San Diego) deals entirely with invertebrates, explaining what has been learned about nervous systems from them. He discusses ionic signals in single cells, chemical signals, coordination in jellyfish, modulation, love on the fly, and other topics. Readers are assumed to be familiar with the basic ideas of cells, membranes, proteins, DNA and RNA, small molecules and other matters as taught in an introductory biology course.
