This resource book is an overview of 89 chronic illnesses, with information on support services and resources for patients and families. Illnesses are presented alphabetically and include chronic pain, infertility, asthma, osteoporosis, Parkinson's disease, endometriosis, fibromyalgia, obesity, and mental illness. Each chapter has a brief description and discusses causes, symptoms, and treatment, and describes and lists contact information for associations, agencies, resource centers, and support groups, as well as magazines, newsletters, books, and other resources. Additional chapters list general resources, wish foundations, and services for dealing with death and bereavement. This edition has been revised and updated and contains about 10,000 listings, approximately 300 more than the previous one. It also contains a chapter on thyroid disease and listings for Canadian resources, as well as a new editorial on health care for children in a medical home, taken from The Exceptional Parent.
