ASTM masonry standards for the building industry 2008, 6th ed.
The sixth edition of this reference manual on masonry standards for the building industry is based upon specifications determined by ASTM committees on both mortars and grouts for unit masonry and manufactured masonry units. These standards list specifications for mason's lime, all types of building and decorative brick, masonry cement, tile, mortar, grout and prefabricated masonry units. Testing methods are also outlined for specimen preparation, dry shrinkage of concrete block, splitting tensile strength, flexural bond strength and water penetration and leakage. ASTM standards for welding.
This reference volume of all 59 standards set by the American Welding Society is offered to engineers, inspectors and supervisors for the first time and was developed by three separate ASTM committees on steel and alloys, non-destructive testing and mechanical testing. Each standard addresses specifications, practices and test methods from Structural Welding Code D1.1, with each entry listing the scope of the standard, referenced documents, terminology, ordering information, heat treatment, chemical analysis, metallurgic structure, quality, test methods and other related information. Detailed tables containing precise diagrams of these standards are also included with each specification. (Annotation ©2009 Book News Inc. Portland, OR)
Aviation fuel quality control procedures, 4th ed.
This manual is sponsored by ASTM Subcommittee J on Aviation Fuels, Committee D02 on Petroleum Products and Lubricants. It provides guidance on common procedures used to assess and protect aviation fuel quality, and explains a number of ASTM test methods used as field tests. The task force reviewing the manual represents a broad spectrum of interests including oil companies, airlines, pipeline companies, third-party refueling companies, and aviation organizations. The manual will be useful to fuel handlers, especially third-party refueling organizations and independent fixed base operators. Sections cover general fuel handling, particulate detection, water detection, filtration equipment, and microbial contamination detection. B&w photos, illustrations, and a glossary are included. Common ground, consensus building, and continual improvement; standards and sustainable building; proceedings.
An April 2007 symposium brought together governments, professional and trade organizations, industry, standards bodies, and environmental organizations to discuss current and emerging standards for sustainable building and products. This book contains 13 papers from the symposium, published by the Journal of ASTM International, an online, peer- reviewed journal for the international scientific and engineering community. General themes are US and international sustainable building standards, and evaluation of sustainability. Specific topics discussed include development of a Canadian national standard on design for disassembly and adaptability for buildings, the US Green Building Council's Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) rating system, and sustainability of national building standard design in China. B&w photos are included. There is no subject index. (Annotation ©2009 Book News Inc. Portland, OR)
A comprehensive review of lubricant technology; selection, and design.
Writing with the insights of both a chemist and a lubrication engineer, Rizvi synthesizes the current understanding of the technology of lubricants, and the use of technology in devising new ones. He begins by laying out lubrication fundamentals, then discusses oils with mineral, synthetic, and biological bases; additives; combustion and emissions in engines; hydraulic and transmission fluids; lubricants for gears and for a wide range of miscellaneous industrial purposes; metalworking and machining fluids; the testing of lubricants; and the environment. He includes an extensive glossary (without indicating pronunciation) and an 846-item bibliography, but no index. (Annotation ©2009 Book News Inc. Portland, OR)
Distillation and vapor pressure measurement in petroleum products.
Editor Montemayor is the chief chemist of a Canadian oil company, and he has compiled this manual on distillation and vapor pressure measurement for fellow engineers, researchers and plant operators in the petroleum industry. Sponsored by ASTM International, this volume contains all industry standards for distillation at atmospheric pressure, simulated distillation measurement, vapor pressure measurement, on-line measurement and pressure data for both solvents and liquefied petroleum gas (LPG). These standards are augmented with such information as the history of these procedures, sample modules, scope, terminology, calibrations and group characteristics. (Annotation ©2009 Book News Inc. Effects of radiation on materials; proceedings.
Papers from a June 2006 symposium provide a broad perspective on the development and application of trend curves used to predict fracture toughness transition temperatures in irradiated reactor pressure vessel steels. They also discuss radiation effects on various materials, including erbium-tritide films and oxide dispersion strengthened (ODS) ferritic steels. Papers are grouped in sections on reactor pressure vessel steels, austenitic, ferritic, and advanced steels, and fundamentals of radiation damage. Specific areas investigated include modeling of radiation damage in Fe-Cr alloys, kinetics of the migration and clustering of extrinsic gas in bcc metals, and notch strengthening and its impact on the deformation and fracture of 316L stainless steel. B&w images and illustrations are included. (Annotation ©2009 Book News Inc. Portland, OR)
Physics and chemistry of micro-nanotribology.
Editors Luo (tribology, Tsinghua U., China), Hu (tribology, SKLT Tsinghua U., China) and Wen (mechanical manufacture, Tsinghua U., China) have enlisted help from experts on micro-nanotribology, the measurement and investigation of thin film lubrication (TFL), in this textbook for students and researchers. Contributors describe the measuring techniques and theoretical modeling used in TFL research, and explain the mechanisms for boundary lubrication and friction, gas lubrication in nano-gaps and mixed lubrication at the micro-scale. Current tribology applications are also reviewed, such as magnetic recording systems and ultra-smooth surface polishing. (Annotation ©2009 Book News Inc. Portland, OR)
Repair, retrofit, and inspection of building exterior wall systems.
This work contains papers from an October 2006 symposium on the design, construction, and maintenance of building exterior wall systems, grouped in sections on testing and evaluation techniques, rehabilitation and detailing, case studies, and exterior insulation and finish systems. Papers address diverse topics including survey and assessment techniques and sampling, establishing the integrity of cladding systems and components, case studies of system deterioration and remediation, serviceability issues, seismic retrofit, energy savings, and re-cladding of existing buildings. Materials addressed include vintage masonry, limestone, precast concrete panels, thin stone, exposed cast-in-place concrete, aluminum framing, and glass and metal walls.
